1. Keep yourself well informed!

Alright, so, it’s impossible to stress out how important information is in situations of the kind. One of the most critical things that you need to do during an epidemic outburst is to ensure that you know what you are up against. Browsing the internet is your go-to activity in situations of the kind but beware! Unfortunately, the world wide web doesn’t have a filter which keeps irrelevant and false information from uploaded. You can easily find yourself in a web of lies which are only there to promote certain products.

The main thing that you need to consider when it comes to getting accurate information is browsing through authority websites. This is absolutely critical. Make sure that you are up-to-date if there is a threat of possible pandemic as this is going to give you quite a lot of time to prepare. Make sure that you are also coordinated with your local ERU as well as the local medical authorities in order to get all the necessary information there.

2. Empower Your Body!

There is no better protection than prevention! The previous step – getting enough information – should have led to further actions. You need to visit your doctor and make sure that you get all the necessary shots against the disease which is flaming through. Of course, this is only in the event that there is such a shot. Certain diseases might not be treatable yet.

However, what a lot of people fail to understand is that boosting your immune system is not just a matter of taking medicine. You need to ensure that your body, as a whole, is in proper health. Do exercises, maintain a proper diet and, in general, care for your body. Any virus is going to have particularly hard times getting into an overly healthy body!

3. MRE Foods – Absolutely Imperative

In the event of an epidemic or worse – a pandemic, you need to have your own stockpile of edibles. You should refrain from eating foods which have been recently stored in the market as they might be spreading the disease. MRE foods are your best bet. These are Meals Ready to Eat (hence the name) which have either very long or no expiration dates at all. These are definitely supplies that you need to have in case of an epidemic.

Of course, you need to trust a reliable brand as this is something which could potentially be lifesaving. XMRE is an established leader and provides some of the highest-quality MREs on the market. Make sure you have your own storage of foods in order to be certain that you’d make it through a substantially for a long period without fresh supplies.

4. A Survival Kit is a Must Have!

A lot of people thing that there is no such thing as epidemic survival kit. While it’s true that you won’t be refrained access from important everyday tools, there are some things that you must absolutely have in your epidemic survival kit.

N95 respirator masks, chemical goggles, black nitrile gloves, protected hooded coverall, shoe covers and a range of other items need to be present in the kit. In order to survive epidemics, you need to be prepared. It’s true that prevention is incredibly important but protection is just as critical. Without the appropriate wear, you wouldn’t be capable of going to the store, for instance, without having to worry about whether or not you caught the disease. This is absolutely unacceptable. Make sure to include first-aid medical supplies as well as all other general medicine which is needed. This is something absolutely paramount.

5. Practice Outstanding Personal Hygiene

If there is something which could trigger an infection or a disease, this is certainly poor personal hygiene. You need to make sure that yours is absolutely flawless. This is especially true if you are aware that there is an outbreak.

Wash and sterilize your hand on every chance you get using at least 70% alcohol, soap or hand sanitizer and water. Furthermore, you should bath with stored water as well as with effective antibacterial soap habitually. Make sure to refrain from using water from the main supply line as much as you can as this is one of the easiest ways for the epidemic to travel. Survive epidemics through cleverness and ensure that you stay away from some of the most common mistakes that people do.

6. Shelter in Place

Another thing that you want to ensure is that your household is absolutely sanitized. This doesn’t just mean that you should clean it regularly. You need to keep the air in the house free from all of the possible contamination factors and agents.

Place plastic sheeting on any window and door gaps. Do not forget the ventilation system! This is a very common path for bacteria to get introduced in your home. This is critical, especially if the virus that’s causing the epidemic is airborne. If you want to take it a step further, you might want to use an air filtration device which is equipped with a special HEPA filter. The latter is capable of capturing up to 99.9% of the airborne particles, hence providing you with rather clear breathing environment.

It’s important to keep yourself as isolated as it’s possible, regardless of how much you might not want to do so. This is an important consideration which is going to reduce the chances of getting infected substantially. It’s one of the most paramount steps to survive epidemics.

7. Defend What is Yours!

While this is a scenario that is very resented and feared by many, it’s one that you’d have to assume. Protect what is yours – your family members and your property! Epidemics are particularly challenging psychologically. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if havoc arises on the streets.

It’s also possible for people to start rushing to your property to stock up on food as well as water. This might cause incredible issues. Defend what is yours and make sure that you take the necessary steps of doing so. Keep in mind that social as well as economic unrest is most likely to follow. As shocking as it may sound to you right now, having your personal weapons locked and loaded is something that you should consider. If you don’t have personal weapons – get some! You need to be prepared for the worst if you are to survive epidemics. It may never come to it but you can’t be sure! It’s always far better to be safe than sorry – remember this!

8. Prepare to Bag Out

During an epidemic, transportation is usually troublesome. There is likely to be havoc on the streets and this will make moving from point A to point B particularly challenging. This is further complemented by the containment protocols which are instituted by governmental authorities. That’s why you need a plan.

Now, the first thing that you need to make sure is that you have a carefully laid out bag-out strategy. Where are you headed? How are you going to get there? The answers to these questions are potentially lifesaving.

Your destination should be out of the reach of the epidemic. Of course, if we are talking about a national threat, or worse – a global one, your options are limited. However, high mountain spots are usually your go-to solution as the air there isn’t predisposing bacterial growth. Now that you have your destination, think about how you’ll get there.

The bag-out vehicle is critical. A lot of people would suggest specialized vehicle but that’s not something that most can afford and, quite frankly – it’s not necessary. Your car could be equipped with special HEPA filters for the filtration. This is going to ensure that the air in your car is clean as much as it can be. It’s going to be cleaner than the outside – that’s for sure.

Prepare your supplies. You need to make sure that you take supplies for at least 72 hours ahead. Remember those MRE foods that we talked about above? This is also when they will be game changing. Make sure that you do not forget water as it’s also critical. Keep in mind that your body could go a lot more without food than without water! Stock as much as you can.

9. Bag out!

Now that everything you’ve prepared is ready and waiting, you need to get out of the hot spot as soon as it’s possible, should this turn out to be necessary. Make sure that you are listening to the NOAA radio or that you are watching the news. You need to be perfectly informed about whether or not you need to evacuate the area.

An epidemic can last for a few months – it could also last for a year or even more. Ultimately, the best thing you can do is to have an isolated separate location, far away from population spots which is stocked with enough MREs and water. This is something absolutely critical. Actually, you can also stack up on other foods, as long as they don’t expire. There is a list of them that you can consider.

Furthermore, you need to make sure that you have certain things for basic human functionalities. Electricity is a perk so you can equip the bag-out destination with solar panels to have enough of it. Water filtration devices should be on top of your list as things to get. You are going to run out of fresh water after a few days if you fail to do so and that’s just something that you can’t have. As a worst case scenario you can boil the water but there are ways which are far easier than that.

As you can see, there are quite a few things that you can do in order to survive epidemics. You shouldn’t underestimate this as it has proven to be a substantial threat to all mankind. The examples in history are numerous, with the Black Plague being one that managed to wipe Europe’s half population.

From MRE foods to fresh water and filtration devices, there are a lot of things that you need to prepare. It may seem like a lot of work right not but ask yourself this – are you going to risk your life and the life of your family just because you don’t want to make a few preparations? Sure, it’s an investment to consider but you don’t have to do it at once. You can take it slowly and spread the tasks throughout time so the financial burden is far less considerable.
